De acuerdo al boletÃn informativo del INAH, el esqueleto humano, descubierto en el sitio arqueológico Hoyo Negro, ubicado dentro de una cueva inundada de Quintana Roo, permite confirmar su linaje asiático Beringio, ha sido estudiado desde hace casi tres años por especialistas nacionales y extranjeros, y fechado cientÃficamente con una antigüedad de entre 13,000 y 12,000 años en laboratorios especializados de la Unión Americana y Canadá.
Según estudios de ADN mitocondrial (El ADN Mitocondrial Esclarece la Evolución Humana), lo colocan como la pieza faltante para poder fortalecer el lazo que existe entre los primeros pobladores de América y los grupos nativos paralelos en este continente.
Los estudios realizados por el INAH, indican que se trata del esqueleto más completo y genéticamente intacto que se ha encontrado en América; perteneciente a una joven de entre 15 y 16 años que murió dentro de una cueva localizada en el actual estado de Quintana Roo, inundada después de la última glaciación que finalizó hace unos 10,000 años, y cuyos restos son los más antiguos localizados en el Nuevo Mundo.
Los resultados, que confirman la antigüedad del esqueleto bautizado como “la Joven de Hoyo Negro†o “Naiaâ€, serán dados a conocer en la prestigiada revista Science próximamente.
La investigación se realiza a través del Proyecto Arqueológico Subacuático Hoyo Negro, Tulum, Quintana Roo; co-dirigido principalmente por la arqueóloga pionera de la arqueologÃa subacuática en México, Pilar Luna Erreguerena, del Instituto Nacional de AntropologÃa e Historia (INAH); James C. Chatters, antropólogo y paleontólogo de Applied Paleoscience and Direct AMS, reconocido mundialmente por el descubrimiento e investigación del llamado Hombre de Kennewick; Dominique Rissolo, arquelóga del Instituto Waitt, asì asì como Alberto Nava Blank y Roberto Chávez Arce, miembros del Proyecto Espeleológico Tulum (PET).
Además del INAH, se ha contado con el valioso apoyo de National Geographic Society, el Instituto Waitt, el Archaeological Institute of America y la National Science Foundation, por citar algunos organismos de prestigio. Asimismo, se ha trabajado muy de cerca con la directora del Centro INAH-Quintana Roo, arqueóloga Adriana Velázquez Morlet. Las investigaciones vinculan los restos de “Naia â€, con migraciones siberianas ubicándolo dentro de un grupo que desarrolló cambios de adaptación al nuevo medio, y se encuentran bajo resguardo del INAH. Quien acentuó la necesidad de invitar a los buzos exploradores, quienes son los que descubren estos restos, informar a la Subdirección de ArqueologÃa Subacuática del INAH, para que se tomen las acciones pertinentes para garantizar su estudio y preservación.
